The Walt Disney Concert Hall highlights

All events here are ticketed separately, and it's recommended that you purchase tickets in advance. The gallery, also operated by REDCAT, offers free admission and is open during their regular operating hours as well as during the intermission of any live shows. The gallery is focused on highlighting new American artists and rotates exhibitions regularly.

Even if you're not planning to attend an event at the concert hall, you can still take a tour of the building and the galleries. Self-guided audio tours are complimentary and self-paced and guided 1-hour tours are available for groups of 15 or more for a fee.

Architecture and design

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is worth visiting simply to marvel at the architecture alone. It was designed by Frank Gehry and took 16 years to complete from concept through construction. The building is applauded for its modern, steel architecture on the outside and for its interior, which has been acclaimed for its astounding acoustic experience, supposedly increasing sound frequencies to decrease the wavelength, and improving the quality of sound. The hall was designed to be an immersive and intimate musical experience, which is why the auditorium was built in a vineyard-style, with seating on all 4 sides of the stage.

Good to know

If you plan on touring the venue without taking in a performance, make sure you check the schedule and visit at a time when there are no performances taking place. If there are, you will be unable to see the Concert Hall. It may also be worth a call to the venue to ensure that there are no closed rehearsals that would create the same conflict.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located next to The Broad Museum, which also offers free tours and general admission to the public. If you're interested in contemporary art and architecture, it would be well worth your time to plan to visit these 2 attractions on the same day.
