What you need to know before you go

New Shoreham is an island town in Rhode Island with only 15.6 square kilometres of land mass and surrounded by water, providing visitors with outdoor experiences, historic sites and relaxation. The South East Lighthouse is among the most famous sites in the region, with a lighthouse that has been operating since 1875. The Block Island Lighthouse, not far away, also dates to the 19th century and provides a brownstone beacon with gorgeous panoramic views. At places like Mohegan Bluffs and Rodman’s Hollow, visitors find hiking trails, oceanfronts and shoreline views and nature conservation to explore.</p> 

  

<p>Beaches abound here, including Mansion Beach with its huge waves, the rugged coastline at Vaill Beach, or the scenic surfing beach of Black Rock. The Block Island Historical Society allows you to explore a museum filled with local artefacts and unique coastal finds. The Abrams Animal Farm is a quirky zoo where kids can pet unusual creatures like kangaroos, lemurs and camels.
