Kansas is a doubly landlocked state of the American Midwest, with vast flatlands known as the High Plains. Most people from outside the US may know about it from popular culture – The Wizard of Oz for example, from where Dorothy and her puppy Toto were swept up by a tornado. But there’s more to Kansas than just fictional tales.
Nicknamed the Sunflower State, Kansas’s vast plains serve as the breadbasket of the country. The central region is also home to 28 state parks that promise plenty of outdoor action and adventure, as well as a collection of magnificent national and historical landmarks. Cities in Kansas are just as diverse, ranging from big metropolises like Topeka, Kansas City, and Wichita, to some of the nicest small towns you’ll ever find in the midwestern US.
