The Museum of the City of New York highlights the city’s changing dynamics through a display of more than 750,000 rotated pieces and ever-changing temporary exhibits. Through these exhibits, you can get a glimpse into the city’s diverse and ephemeral nature.
You can also find a display of photos that tell the story of New York’s community and the changing times. The museum hosts many special events, including civil rights workshops, book talks, and trivia nights. The gift shop features a wide array of New York memorabilia, perfect for souvenirs and gifts.

Highlights of The Museum of the City of New York
On the first floor, 3 galleries are dedicated to “New York at its Core,” which spotlights the history of New York over 400 years. You’ll also find the “Future City Lab” here, which features hands-on elements to explore the city’s future possibilities in design and engineering.
The remainder of the museum holds special exhibitions that have included “Urban Indian,” which presents objects and art highlighting life in New York as a Native American person, and “Cultivating Culture” with stories of the zoos, museums, and other attractions that have helped turn New York into a cultural icon.

Good to know about The Museum of the City of New York
You can find the museum located on 5th Avenue near the top of “Museum Mile.” Only a portion of items are on display at any given time, but you can also view almost 190,000 items in their digital collection.
The Museum of the City of New York is free for members and for guests aged 19 and under, and discounts are offered to seniors and to students over age 19. Nearby attractions you might want to visit while you're here include the American Museum of Natural History and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
