The Mid-City area of New Orleans is a charming and eclectic area with historic sites, dining, and nightlife. The area is perfect for those who would like to get out and explore the city outside of the traditional French Quarter experience.
Just north of the French Quarter, the Mid-City area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area, which was on the backslope of the natural Mississippi River levee, was not settled as early as other parts of the city, but it more than makes up for it now.

Mid-City highlights
Mid-City is a middle-class area and much more of a traditional area than the French Quarter, relying heavily on residents, rather than tourists, for its survival. The restaurants and other establishments here are much more varied than those in areas that are geared more towards tourism.
Along with the dining and nightlife, Mid-City is home to incredible attractions like the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, a traditional amusement park with vintage rides. You can also visit the New Orleans Museum of Art, a world-renowned art museum with masterpieces of global artwork and a sculpture garden.

Good to know about Mid-City
Mid-City is home to many well-known New Orleans landmarks, including Canal Street, which bisects the area. Be sure to take the red tram line for the opportunity to see some of the most iconic New Orleans cemeteries and homes. You can book a historic tour to ensure that you hit all the famous landmarks.
Be sure to bring your appetite, as the area is one of the most diverse areas in New Orleans, playing host to many different restaurants, bakeries, and other culinary delights. Walk along the 2.6-mile-long Lafitte Greenway if you want to sample the local fare while burning some calories.
