Makapu’u Light Point highlights
The Makapu’u Light Point is a popular destination for travellers and outdoor adventures. The easy hike provides breathtaking views of the emerald waters and the Windward Coast with the island of Molokai in the distance. You could also see Rabbit Island and Kahikaipu from the various lookout points along the path.
The Makapu’u Lighthouse is a local landmark that was constructed in 1909. You can see the exterior of the lighthouse and explore the surrounding area. The Molokai Channel, a migratory path for whales, is close by. If you visit between December and May, you can take the trail for an excellent whale-watching experience.
Good to know when visiting Makapu’u Light point
The Makapu’u Light Point trail begins near Sandy Beach. Parking is available in a car park near the trailhead. The area doesn’t have bathrooms or other amenities, so be sure to plan before your visit.
Plenty of attractions are near the Makapu’u Light Point, such as the Sea Life Park, a marine park with sea life exhibits and demonstrations. If you want to spend some time on the beach, Alan Davis Beach is nearby and offers safe swimming and snorkelling. Another highlight is the Makapu’u Tide Pools, a set of tide pools with a blowhole near the trailhead.
