Koret Children’s Quarter in San Francisco

Koret Children’s Quarter is a children's playground within the southeast corner of Golden Gate Park that is a safe space for youth recreation with numerous play structures. The playground was opened in 1888 as Sharon Quarters for Children, but it has since come to be the Koret Children's Quarter after a major renovation in 2007.

Kids of all kinds can find fun here, and there's plenty of room for their adult supervisors to relax along the sidelines. The various playground equipment here is enough to keep kids entertained for hours, so you could easily spend an entire afternoon at the park.

Koret Children’s Quarter highlights

One of the most iconic aspects of this park is the concrete slide. The 2007 renovation undid a lot of the older equipment and features to make way for the new, but the historic concrete slide was retained.

You'll also find the Herschel-Spillman Carousel here, which is as historic as it is entertaining. It was originally built in 1914, but it only arrived in Golden Gate Park in 1940. After some serious renovations, it opened again in 1984 and has been delighting visitors ever since with its collection of animals, including cockerels, goats, camels, and a dragon.

Good to know when visiting Koret Children’s Quarter

When travelling to the playground, it's important to note that it'll require a bit of a walk even if you park at the lot east of Bowling Green Drive. Those spots can fill up fast, so if you're looking to avoid the car park costs, take the bus to the southeastern corner of the park.

The playground does not charge an admission fee, but the carousel does have a small fee to ride. Children under age 5 can ride for free, but riders under 40" must be accompanied by a paying adult.
