Before Hurricane Harbour Splashtown was the water park it's known as today, it was the site of a standard theme park based on Hanna-Barbera cartoons. That only lasted for 2 seasons, however, after which the first water park here, Splashtown USA, was created in the mid-1980s. It wasn't until 1999 that the water park was bought and acquired by Six Flags.

Six Flags operated the park for 8 years before it was sold in 2007 and operated by an independent company. Eleven years later, Six Flags reclaimed the park and retains control to this day. Hurricane Harbour Splashtown was made the official name in 2019, having operated under the Wet'n'Wild branding beforehand. After several renovations and delays, the park as it stands today opened in July 2021.
