The Green City Market is a popular farmers market in Chicago that operates year-round and showcases the best produce and products from locals from the Chicago area. It's a nonprofit organisation that focuses on sustainability and connecting the community with local growers and producers.

Anyone interested in food can find plenty of items offered here, but if you're a chef or are passionate about sustainability you'll be particularly impressed. Most people spend about 2 or 3 hours here, but nothing's stopping you from staying the full 4 hours it's open every Saturday.

At the Green City Market, you'll find all sorts of impressive produce available. This is where you'll get an authentic taste of Chicago straight from the producers themselves. These producers are in attendance at the market, so you can talk to them to learn more about everything they have to offer.

One of the most impressive aspects of this farmers' market is that it tends to be remarkably affordable compared with other sources of this kind of produce. Despite producers maintaining sustainable practices without cutting corners, prices tend to be the same or sometimes lower than other locations offering items of similar quality.

Good to know when visiting Green City Market

The most important thing to keep in mind when visiting the Green City Market is that it's only open one day a week, and that's Saturday. It's an outdoor market, but you'll find an indoor market as well less than a mile to the north near the North Pond Nature Sanctuary.

The Green City Market isn't always held in the same place. In May through October, you'll find it in Lincoln Park, but it moves to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum from November to April as the weather gets considerably colder throughout Chicago.
