Walsall Arboretum is a public park in the Walsall Town Center and offers a rural escape in the heart of town that dates to the Victorian era. The park even today offers Victorian charm and has been a local landmark since 1874. It was built on a former estate for the public good.
During World War I, the park was used as a potato and lumber resource for the War Agricultural Committee. During World War II, the lake was benchmarked as a source of water for fighting fires after bombing raids. Today, it's used for sporting and leisure activities.

Highlights of Walsall Arboretum
The park spans almost 69 hectares of land and includes a wide range of leisure space and activities. It has been given a Green Flag Award. One of the major attractions is Hatherton Lake, around which hiking and cycling trails, green space, gardens and play neighborhoods can be found.
In addition, the park offers a bandstand that can be rented. Sports pitches and equipment include bowling greens, a cricket pitch, table tennis, a skate park, tennis courts, outdoor fitness neighborhoods and multi-use games neighborhoods. For hot summer days, the splash pad is a popular attraction.
What to know about Walsall Arboretum
Walsall Arboretum offers free carparks at the Arboretum extension or paid carparks at the town center entry. Most of the pathways are flat, and the majority of the park is wheelchair accessible, so those with disabilities can enjoy the resources as well.
The park offers an onsite cafe for meals and refreshments. A boathouse allows for getting out on the lake to fish or relax, but remember that fishing is catch and release and requires a license. Baby-changing facilities are also provided to visitors. The park is a popular site for wedding photos, but permits are required.
