Go on a treasure hunt with the kids to explore Bordeaux and its rich architectural heritage in a fun way. There are several different tours available which will allow you to explore the city and enjoy yourself at the same time. Take a stroll through the narrow streets bordered by imposing buildings of dressed stone. Look up in search of an ornamental mascaron sculpture and hone your observation skills to solve puzzles together as a family.

There are several "heritage treasure hunts" with different themes to choose from. Some will transport you back to the Middle Ages, whereas others concentrate on a specific neighbourhood or take you on a journey through the town in search of symbols of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The shortest tours last an hour and are free. Others last up to 2 and a half hours and cost a few euros. Head to the CIAP (Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Centre) located at the Place de la Bourse for more information and to pick up the relevant booklets.

Explore Bordeaux with your children aboard a peaceful boat ride along the River Garonne. It's not always easy to tour the city on foot with young children, so this is a perfect opportunity to keep both parents and children happy. Parents can enjoy the onboard commentary while the kids enjoy travelling without tiring themselves out.

As Bordeaux was built on the shores of the Garonne, the river is of great importance. It flows through the city centre and offers a superb view of many of Bordeaux's historical monuments. The Garonne is also celebrated during the Fête du Fleuve river festival, which takes place at the end of Spring every odd-numbered year. Hop aboard a riverboat and choose between a 1-hour cruise or a whole day excursion, lunch included. Finally, to keep the older ones happy, why not try a guided river trip by canoe or paddleboard?
