Malmo is enjoying a resurgence as the economic and cultural powerhouse of the Scania region of South Sweden. The completion of the groundbreaking Oresund road and rail crossing in 2000 brought an influx of hi-tech companies, while the opening of Malmo University in 1998 introduced a new generation of students and researchers.

Malmo’s city center includes many fine examples of typical Scanian architecture from the 13th to 16th centuries, along with some fabulous Art Nouveau additions, notably the stunning Malmo Synagogue. The city’s built heritage has been brought bang up to date with futuristic skyscrapers like the award-winning Turning Torso.
