The number of beaches in Tenerife far exceeds others within the Canary Islands – the Spanish island cluster located off the coast of Morocco. Even though the island is famous for its conical volcanic peak, most visitors flock to the coastline to bask in the triple threat of sun, sea and sand. After all, the island enjoys peak season during the winter months, when it's the best place in Europe to find warm weather and bright blue skies.
Because Tenerife was formed from volcanic activity, many of the island's natural beaches are made up of black sand. The golden sand that you see on other developed beaches has a surprising source: The Sahara Desert. Some beaches in Tenerife are specifically built for tourism, but there are many rugged options for people searching for a secluded experience. Whatever your personal preference, you’ll find a beach on Tenerife that meets your expectations.
