10 Best Places to Go Shopping in Munich

Maximilianstrasse is considered the most exclusive shopping district in Munich. The 1-km boulevard is one of the city's 4 royal avenues. Here, you can find some of the world’s most luxurious designer brands, including Gucci, Cartier, Mont Blanc, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana. There are also stores selling secondhand designer clothing and accessories at affordable prices.

But even if you’re not going to splurge, you can stroll around Maximilianstrasse. Admire the gorgeous pieces in the shop windows, marvel at the magnificent 19th-century buildings, and visit an art gallery. There are also several cafés if you need a pick-me-up. The street and shops can get crowded on Saturdays, so visit on a weekday if you’d prefer a quieter shopping experience.

Victuals Market is a 200-year-old, lively open-air market in Munich’s Old Town. It’s where locals, visitors, and chefs meet and shop for the city’s freshest ingredients. From Mondays to Saturdays, you can browse over 140 stalls selling fresh produce, flowers, spices, meat, cheese, bread, honey, wine, tea, and Bavarian specialities.

The market is also an excellent place to buy locally made souvenirs, including natural combs and wooden kitchen accessories. In between shopping, grab a coffee and a local snack from one of the cafes or relax under the shade of a tree in Victuals Market's beer garden.

Kaufingertor Passage is a 70-metre-long shopping passage in Munich that offers a good mixture of speciality fashion stores, jewellery shops, and delicatessens displaying tempting snacks. It’s a must-do when you’re exploring one of Munich’s busiest pedestrian-only shopping streets.

Apart from retail offerings, highlights of Kaufingertor Passage include its modern architecture, beautiful, Insta-worthy decorations, and glass ceiling that lets in natural light. Since Kaufingertor Passage is covered, you can enjoy a day of shopping even in unfavourable weather.

Olympia Shopping Mall is located north of Munich, in the residential district of Moosach. With over 130 shops offering fashion, beauty, and homeware across 2 floors, it’s one of the city’s largest shopping centres. It also hosts 2 of Germany’s most famous department stores: Galeria Kaufhof and Karstadt.

Grab a refreshment or snack from one of the onsite cafes or restaurants between your shopping. You can also combine your visit to Olympia Shopping Mall with the nearby Flohmarkt Olympiapark. The flea market is open on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9 am to 4 pm. The easiest way to reach Olympia Shopping Mall is by taking a train on the U-Bahn line 3 to the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum station.

Neuhauserstrasse dates back to 1293, making it one of the oldest and most prominent streets in Munich. It’s also the  Old Town's largest pedestrian zone. Lining the 350-metre-long thoroughfare are large upscale department stores like Oberpollinger and TK Maxx, both of which host designer and brand-name clothing, shoes, and accessories.

You can also find an array of independent boutiques and street vendors selling souvenirs, flowers, and fresh produce. Several restaurants and outdoor cafes line Neuhauserstrasse, where you can relax and refuel while enjoying street performances.

Theatinerstrasse runs through Munich’s Old Town, connecting Marienplatz with Odeonplatz. The shopping street is named after the 17th-century Theatine Church (Theatinerkirche), an important cultural landmark and popular symbol of Munich that overlooks Odeonsplatz.

On a stroll along the boulevard, you can discover international luxury stores, locally owned boutiques, small accessory shops, and secondhand book stores. And after a long day of browsing and shopping, you can hang out at one of the many bistros or cafes dotted around the Old Town.

Reim Arcaden is a 3-storey shopping mall to the east of Munich. It’s home to over 120 stores, restaurants, and speciality food shops. You can also find banks, beauty salons, and travel agencies. From fashion and shoes to jewellers and perfumeries, the mall offers diverse shopping opportunities in Munich. 

Reim Arcaden is close to Riemer Park, which means you can enjoy a couple of hours of shopping, followed by a relaxing stroll through the park. It features bikeways for cycling and rollerskating, as well as a lovely artificial lake for a refreshing swim (weather permitting). To reach the mall, take the S-Bahn line 4 or 6 from Marienplatz to Trudering and switch to U-Bahn line 2 to Messestadt West.

CityQuartier Fünf Höfe is an elegant shopping centre on Theatinerstrasse, in the centre of Old Town Munich. It has around 64 shops, including international fashion brands such as Falconeri, Massimo Dutti, Max Mara, and Emporio Armani. There’s also a host of jewellery, accessories, and stationery shops. 

You can combine your shopping trip with a visit to the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung (Hypo Cultural Foundation), which is located inside Fünf Höfe. The art museum displays ever-changing exhibitions on classic art, design and photography. 

Hofstatt is a trendy shopping mall on Sendlinger Strasse, right in the middle of Old Town Munich. It's relatively popular with the city's younger crowd thanks to its wide selection of international and locally owned high-end fashion boutiques. You can find jewellery, shoes, accessories, and trendy gifts.

Once you've explored the mall, we highly recommend taking a stroll along Sendlinger Strasse. As one of Munich's famous pedestrianised shopping streets, the boulevard has a lot to offer, including hip shops, jewellery boutiques, and cute cafés.

You can find Flohmarkt Daglfing next to the Trabrennbahn Munich-Daglfing horseracing track in East Munich. The good-sized flea and antique market hosts dozens of stalls selling second-hand toys, clothes, jewellery, statues, paintings, and home decor – all at bargain prices. Plan to arrive in the morning as some vendors start packing up just after lunchtime.

There are several ways to get to the market. You can take U-Bahn line 4 from Odeonplatz to Arabellapark and switch to bus number 183. Alternatively, take S-Bahn line 8 from Marienplatz and change to bus number 183 at Daglfing Bahnhof Ost station.
