Kehena Beach Estates pairs volcanic black sand with turquoise waters in a secluded coastal hideaway. Adventurous travelers can soak up the sun at the clothing-optional beach or explore the lush tropical landscape surrounding private vacation homes. The nearby SPACE Seaview Performing Arts Center and Star of the Sea Painted Church offer cultural detours from beach lounging. Vacation rentals nestled in rainforest vegetation provide full kitchens and outdoor living spaces with ocean or garden views. A rental car is essential in this remote paradise, as dining options are limited and most visitors stock up on supplies in nearby Pahoa town.

Kalapana Sea View Estates

Kalapana Sea View Estates lets you live the real Hawaii without the resort crowds. Black sand beaches await just a short hike away, where dramatic waves crash against volcanic shores. The neighborhood's lush tropical gardens and lava rock formations create a natural paradise for those seeking authentic island living. You'll need a rental car to explore, as this peaceful residential haven sits about 45 minutes from main towns. The remote location rewards you with exceptional stargazing and the constant soundtrack of Pacific waves.

Puna Palisades

Black sand kisses the shore of Kehena, a hidden paradise where the rainforest meets the Pacific. Locals and adventurous travelers gather at the clothing-optional beach beneath swaying palms. Nearby, you can explore lava-formed tide pools teeming with marine life or catch performances at the SPACE arts center. The dramatic coastal cliffs and occasional steam vents create an otherworldly backdrop for your island escape. Pack your own meals or drive to Pahoa town for fresh Hawaiian fare since dining options are limited in this remote enclave. Simple vacation rentals and eco-friendly cabins blend seamlessly into the lush landscape. "Room was excellent and very well maintained. Housekeeping staff were very helpful and punctual. The restaurant was excellent but was surprised to find out the breakfast coupons were for $10 off, not complimentary breakfast. All in all I would stay there again."

10/10 Excellent
"We stayed in the Garden room and found it to be a little peace of paradise all on its own. The host was absolutely fabulous, he would come over in the morning and get the coffee going, gave us an itinerary of events going on for each day of the week. On Monday he hosted a bonfire bbq, with drinks, food, and entertainment. We felt very welcome here. One of the highlights beyond the awesome hot tub in the jungle was the outdoor shower, now I want one at my house. This will definitely be our Hawaii home for every trip to the big island. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay or a better time staying there. Absolutely the best resort I’ve been to."
