A lovely hotel, great views of the medieval gate from the windows. A bit of traffic noise early a.m if windows left open, otherwise quiet. Breakfasts very nice and the staff very welcoming. Our 4th visit and we'll be back.

Great location and nice bathroom. Felt full of character, but the two negatives was how coarse the bed linen was (the actual rest of the bed was great) and the amount of messages the hotel sent me before check in.

Pros. Stayed a few times. Staff is lovely. Location is great. Bed is comfortable. The pub downstairs has great atmosphere. Cons. Some wear and tear in the ensuite. Superfluous throw cushions on a bed in a tiny room are not necessary. Breakfast a bit lacking for those who prefer a continental selection. I would stay again.

I stayed at the Westgate pub when in Winchester for work. The staff were friendly, my room was cosy and comfortable, and the food was great. The Westgate felt like a safe, welcoming place to stay and I would definitely visit again.

I loved this olde worlde hotel with its quirky characteristics like the uneven floors and the wonky staircase. I just had to take a photo of my bedroom door! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the food was delicious.

I needed a place near the Saxon sites and Cathedral. And it didn't hurt that the Westgate was just a five minute walk from the rail station. It's an old place, and it had the feel of the ages in the floors and doors. But that was part of the overall experience for me. It had charm. The staff was very accommodating, and I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Westgate. It was all good. And it was across the street from the medieval Westgate to the city as well. I would stay there again if ever get the chance to visit the area again.

Great location

A very handy hotel with great location and surprisingly nice rooms

8/10 Muy buena

The room itself (room 1 deluxe) is well designed & sympathetically decorated to the age of the building giving a feeling of opulence meets modern. The toilet cisterns take ages to refill but I suspect this is due to the age of the plumbing! The bed is very comfy. The downside to the room is that in the unprecedented heat there was inadequate little fan which meant leaving the french doors open during the night. This faced a main junction so traffic noise was an issue. The building itself is old & gorgeously quirky - this means narrow & uneven staircases & no lift. If you are unsteady on your feet or have large / heavy cases this might not be the place for you. Very easy 2 minute walk to both the train station & into the city / cathedral. The staff were helpful / drinks expensive! I would stay here again though!
