The atmospheric St. Nicolai Ruins have become an evocative venue for performances and events. On the calendar, you’ll find musical artists of all genres as well as the Gotland Chamber Music Festival and events for Gotland’s annual Medieval Week. The state-of-the-art sound system and unique acoustics make it a favourite for both concertgoers and musicians. The shell of the 900-year-old massive stone building is covered to protect listeners from rain, but it’s otherwise open to the elements. Blankets can be rented when it gets chilly.
You can even hire St. Nicolai Church for events. Its Gothic arches and stone rosettes make it an extraordinary and romantic setting for a destination wedding.

From May to September, Gutekällaren comes to life. The outside of this nightclub, near Visby’s old town square, might be misleading with its traditional medieval facade, but inside, its many rooms fill with music and partygoers. There is a dress code that’s enforced at the door, so keep that in mind. But once you’re in, the venue is known for its top mixologists and DJs, who offer their talents on multiple floors.
When you’re ready to take a break from pulsing beats and strobing lights, cool off on Gutekällaren’s rooftop bar and order a burger to refuel you for more dancing to come. We recommend arriving early as the club is often crowded, and entry is limited to available space.
