The New Territories is one of the main regions of Hong Kong, along with Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. It stretches from north of Kowloon to the Chinese border, covering the northern part of Kowloon and south of the Sham Chun River. New Kowloon has many modern apartments and condominiums, but is relatively quieter than downtown Hong Kong.
The New Territories has wetlands, parks, farmland, white-sand beaches, and quaint villages with interesting histories. The region is also made up of Hong Kong’s outlying islands, such as car-free Lamma, and peaceful Sai Kung.
