When searching for the best pubs in Prague, you’d be forgiven for being overawed with the high-grade choices on offer. Famed for its exceptional lager, authentic pubs, and warm hospitality, Prague is a city steeped in beer hall tradition.
Pilsner is one of Czechia's most beloved exports. It was first produced in 1842 by brewer Josef Groll, in the nearby town of Plzen, from which it takes its name. From traditional beer halls to trendy gastropubs, Prague is surely one of the best places to enjoy a cool glass of pilsner (and a portion of pickled herring, of course).

U Pivrnce
A pub decked out in colourful murals
- Ambiente nocturno
U Pivrnce is an art-themed pub and restaurant that’s known for its tasty pilsner, hearty local food, and cartoon-adorned walls. Originally opened in 1994, the pub contains murals by celebrated artist and former Olympian Petr Urban.
While many of the original cartoons were destroyed by floodwater in 2002, Urban regularly drops by to add new visuals to U Pivrnce. The colourful (and rather risqué) paintings depict the comical escapades of his fictional character, Ruda Pirvnec. You can find this pub in Old Town Prague, just a short walk from St. Nicholas’ Church.
