Learn more about Akureyri
Beneath snow-capped mountains, this northern capital offers unexpected delights at every turn. Dip into the Forest Lagoon's geothermal waters while gazing across the fjord at winter's alpenglow. Whale watching boats depart daily from the harbor, where captains speak of humpbacks with familiar affection. The botanical garden defies its Arctic location with thousands of thriving plant species. After dark, the northern lights often perform their ethereal dance above town. Hafnarstræti's microbreweries pour craft beers with quirky names while locals debate summer's midnight sun versus winter's ski slopes at Hlíðarfjall. The Aviation Museum and Nonnahús offer cultural respite when the weather turns, though locals insist there's no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.

Hotel Sveinbjarnargerdi
"Spacious cosy room, comfy bed, we had a balcony, lovely to open up and let air in as only one small window and no aircon/fan. Was difficult to keep water contained in shower tray with curtain that didn’t fit the area completely, hence shower wet floor around toilet and Vanity as not a large area. Found hallway foot /voice traffic with wheelie trolleys noisy when other guests arrived ,or talking when passing ( not soundproof rooms) for us was arrivals late at night, perhaps carpet hallways would be better. Nice Brekky offered."
Sæluhus Hotel Apartments & Houses
"Easy to find and communicating via Hotel.com messages was effective. The hotel had everything expected except for a spatula for the frying pan and the pillows could have been better. Hot tub was great and just what you need after a long day walking. It is within walking distance into the city centre."
Hotel Halond
"Very comfortable and clean"
Hotel Akureyri
"The common areas were excellent. Fantastic ambience in sitting area and friendly staff. Our rooms were very small with no space for putting away clothes. The sink was outside and top of the table. One room had no fridge. Probably different rooms with different prices. Breakfast was fabulous"
Hotel Natur
"The hotel was lovely; the staff was incredibly helpful and kind, the hotel was beautifully furnished, hot tub was great and scenery surrounding the hotel was gorgeous."

"Very good location. Close to the main walking area and restaurants. The shared washer & dryer were much appreciated."
Lava Apartments
"Very clean and as advertised. Room was a little cramped for 4 people, but we kinda expected that going in. Located in the heart of town, many restaurants and shopping are within easy walking distance. Only issue was that for us the room was too warm even when the temperature was turned all the way down. We had to crack the windows to sleep which made the room noisy with the sounds of the town and wind."

"Beautiful new hotel in downtown Akureyri…convenient, great service and excellent food at the restaurant"
