Top neighborhoods in Darmstadt

Verlegerviertel
Darmstadt's Verlegerviertel neighborhood offers attractions including Kunsthalle Darmstadt.

Mitte
Mitte invites you to wander through Darmstadt's history on cobblestone streets. The towering Residenzschloss palace stands proud alongside the buzzing Marktplatz, where locals chat over coffee. Art lovers can lose themselves in Hessisches Landesmuseum's treasures while the State Theater draws in culture seekers. Herrengarten offers a peaceful green retreat from sightseeing. The neighborhood shines with its pedestrian-friendly layout, making it easy to hop between attractions, cozy cafés, and boutique shops. Traditional German gasthauses serve hearty schnitzel alongside modern bistros throughout the historic center. Most accommodations occupy charming heritage buildings, putting you steps away from Darmstadt's cultural heart.

Bessungen
Bessungen charms visitors with its 18th-century Orangerie palace and baroque gardens nestled in this historic Darmstadt district. The expansive Herrngarten park offers peaceful paths under ancient trees, while traditional half-timbered houses line cobblestone streets. Stadion am Bollenfalltor and Prinz-Emil-Garten provide additional green spaces perfect for afternoon strolls. Cozy neighborhood gasthauses serve hearty Hessian specialties like sauerbraten and spätzle. Elegant guesthouses and boutique bed-and-breakfasts in converted historic homes offer authentic accommodations. Darmstadt's efficient tram and bus network connects you to the city center every 10-15 minutes.

Darmstadt-Eberstadt
Darmstadt-Eberstadt offers a slice of authentic German life with a medieval twist. The dramatic Frankenstein Castle watches over charming half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. Hiking enthusiasts can hit forest trails in the Prinzenberg nature reserve or stroll through vineyard landscapes. The historic old town center reveals Germany's architectural heritage while providing a peaceful escape from urban bustle. Traditional gasthauses serve hearty Hessian cuisine paired with local wines. Travelers will find comfortable lodging in family-run guesthouses and vacation rentals with personal touches. A car is recommended since buses run infrequently, though the neighborhood itself is perfect for leisurely walks and cycling adventures.

Steigenberger Airport Hotel Frankfurt
"This was a fantastic hotel that was close enough to the airport yet far enough away. The price was fantastic and the rooms were exceptionally clean, the spa was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. I would stay here again!"
b'mine Frankfurt Airport, WorldHotels Crafted
"Very clean and well maintained room in a good location for the airport. Only negatives were the reception staff I spoke to weren't hugely helpful and the price of breakfast was extortionate (so I went elsewhere!)"
IntercityHotel Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3
"Great hotel great staff only downside pity the Junkers bar not a bit bigger had to wait a while to get a table but nice bar and staff anyway"
Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof
"Beautiful hotel and rooms. Great location close to the Old Town."
Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel & Conference Center
"The room was great. Very clean and quiet."
Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport
"If flying out of Frankfurt Airport from Terminal 1 or 2 much more convenient. TER I am 3 requires inter-terminal shuttle train. Just took an extra 15 minutes."
Scandic Frankfurt Hafenpark
"The room and bathroom were clean, noise levels were low. Similar to another Scandic I once stayed at, the room was fairly compact but well equipped and tastefully (minimally) decorated. Furniture, bathroom etc appeared to be essentially new. As to the location, there is a skate park and fitness parkour right in front, and a nice view of the river. The hotel features a bar and a restaurant which I did not visit; other than that there are no restaurants adjacent the hotel or right across the street. However, there are some within walking distance, and so are subway line U6 and tram line 11 which connect to the city center."
Victoria Hotel
"Centrally located in the financial district. Safe and great night life."
Hampton by Hilton Frankfurt Airport
"Dropped a star because the twin room has barely any space to even open a cabin suitcase comfortably without having to trip over it. But overall, the stay was excellent - clean, comfortable beds, easy-to-control thermostat, powerful shower. We arrived just after 22:00 and had food delivered through the equivalent of Uber Eats - costly, but it’s great to have as an option. It is a one-stop on S-Bahn 8 from Terminal 1, then a 5-min walk, so great for a brief stopover to freshen up between flights. The ticket is roughly €2.40 one way (can be bought from the machine on the platform - choose ‘short ride to gateway gardens’), and it’s a 3-min ride. I highly recommend you get the train instead of Uber. Uber was coming up to around €13 one way, and the rides kept getting cancelled, so we wasted time. Should have gone straight to the S-Bahn. The S-Bahn is easy to find. Follow the signs or ask the info desk - then, if you can smell the stench pee on the approach, you are nearly there. Breakfast was superb. My son enjoyed freshly made waffles."
