"Locals we spoke to said the food and drink are good. The same cannot be said for our room. We only stayed 2 hours before checking out and at the time of writing still await a refund. Room 10, on the second floor, is up steep steps, has no insulation so was unbearably hot when we arrived. The window did not stay open unless we wedged it open with the bin. The bathroom door couldn't fully open as it hits the sink and the cold tap on the sink is not attached. A promised fan was never provided and...

"This is a beautiful hotel set in a beautiful location. The landscaped gardens around the property are immaculate and a real highlight of the venue. Our experience of some of the staff was however very strange. There are some strange rules around check in where you are not able to give any of your details or complete the registration before 3pm - apparently the computer says no! This then leads to everyone trying to check in at the same time in a rather small and congested reception area....

"Upon arrival I was waiting at reception for a while I thought reception staff was dealing with another guest, turned out it was another member of staff they were just chatting to. Room needs upgrading, lack of power points/usb ports near to bed for phone charging. Bath trim mouldy. After having breakfast was escorted to reception because incorrect details on system- luckily they decided not to charge me again for breakfast for a £200 per night room"

"Small independent hotel and restaurant in a stunning village. The most attentive and welcoming staff. The food in the restaurant was amazing and we have extremely high standards when it comes to curry! Aziz surpassed our expectations and was one of the best we have eaten. The hotel itself was extremely clean, well presented, the food was wonderful, but it was the staff who made our two night stay truly special. We now need to find another reason to drive three and a half hours to go and stay...

"A great hotel, good location and value for money. Excellent parking."

"Our room was really lovely decor, clean and well equipped, even had a little fridge! Staff were very helpful and friendly, hotel is about 25 minute walk from city centre , but there are bus-stops nearby with frequent buses. The only slight downside was the cooked part of the breakfast which wasn’t very hot, but as we were only staying for one night it wasn’t worth moaning about. We would definitely stay there again."

"Yay - Nespresso machine! Handy location, loved the decor. Very characterful building, excellent English breakfast. Perfect for overnighting for Blenheim palace, and please don't miss the Museum of Oxford life just up the street - it's a little gem."
