Positioned on top of a hill directly overlooking the sanctuary of Nazareth, in a building complex that was once a convent, St Gabriel's is the antithesis of the boring, purely functional, lonely hotel, which tend to be the norm. As a pilgrim this for me is wonderful place. Whatever the inconvenience of getting here, with the long steep trek up the hill, whatever the lack of perfection & luxury about the place - who cares? I'm on pilgrimage. This is Nazareth, not Las Vagas. It is the home town of Holy Family, of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, where Christ lived & worked for nearly 30 years in total obscurity, in the backroom of a workshop. At night, when I look down on the great Basilica all lit up from my bedroom window, knowing that this is the very spot where the message of salvation was first announced by the Angel, this is priceless!
