It’s a cheap and seemingly safe place to sleep. The Asian lady who runs it seems quite polite and friendly.
But the facilities are old, worn out, dirty and in places moldy.
Montreal is an expensive city and Apéro is cheap and you get what you pay for. However, when you put 6 beds in one small room, and charge $40-50/each, you’re earning $200-300/night depending on occupancy. You would expect better conditions even for a hostel. This place is an old townhouse converted into a hostel and it’s small, cramped and generally fairly substandard compared to other auberges I’ve tried.
By comparison, M Montreal in the village, for a similar price/night is a 1000x better and much more professional with way more space and amenities.
Auberge Apéro is much smaller of course. But you can still be better organized and cleaner. This place is just worn out and needs a meaningful decluttering, repair, upgrading effort.
I would not go back.
