Extended our stay as it was so good!

Everything was perfect with this stay. The in-house garden is like a dream, very calm & relaxing. The food in particular dinner was very exceptional, they use high quality ingredients and are flexible to accommodate dietary requirements (with advanced notice of course). Onsen was a very short walk from our room, no need to worry when the outside is cold & wet. The room is fairly spacious, our room comes with a balcony overlooking the garden, with few pieces of distinct looking comfortable furniture. Not to mention the service is flawless with excellent service & hospitality. Our first night stay was so good and we decided to extend for another night at Shoheiso. Last tip: always go for the option with dinner included!

Amazing food and host

Everything was amazing . We stayed two nights with dinner and breakfast included . Each dish was a beauty of its own and the taste was fresh and delicious. Not the standard one would expect from a hotel dining spot. Because the facility is not big (only 14 rooms) , the host and hostess were very much like family. Even though toilet within the room was old but it’s very clean; I always shower at the public area anyway (most of the time there were only me). Overall a wonderful experience . All the family meme era were happy about it.

Onsen hot springs are wonderful and worth the stay

Onsen hot springs are wonderful, you won't use the bath/shower in the room. Don't miss out on the traditional tea room and free coffee machine located on the business centre side of the building, right on entering the building from main reception. Staff not fluent in English but very attentive and understanding all the same.

Authentic traditional with modern conveniences

A true step into ancient Japanese times.. This lovely ryokan had all the key elements but with little refinements...such as the futon bed on tatami mats (but with a tempurpedic topper); bathing room (shower area and sunken-in bath); privacy toilet (but with a western style commode .. No squatting necessary,) wifi, and there were onsen (communal baths) on the property. This particular ryokan was beautiful with stunning grounds (manicured and lovely foliage), and there were other amenities we unfortunately could not take advantage of, such as spa services and a restaurant. There was a huge language barrier and if we understood correctly, they did not offer breakfast. There didn't appear to be many options in the surrounding area but we might simply have either misunderstood or not have been aware. Either way, a must if you will be in this area!

We will be back...

Our family of 5 had an excellent time staying at Shoheiso. Great quiet neighborhood, excellent hotel, great service, but most of all, the most friendly and helpful staff one can ask for...

Kawaii.

We found the Shoheiso Ryokan as beautiful as presented on the website. Many hotels otherwise tend to be different from how they are presented on the website. It's ambience was great, the surrounding beautiful, the staff very friendly, and the food simply gorgeous. My family loved the place so much that they want to come here again should be travel to Japan again.

Jättetrevligt personal, god mat och bra service. Ligger i en sömnig stad/ort där det inte finns så mycket att göra.15 min promenad från tågstationen. Prisvärt. Rekommenderas!
