We're Choice member and have stayed at decent member options. For this trip, we stayed at Comfort Inn in Oakdale, MN for 2-weeks. We had a last minute family emergency and "100% non-smoking" hotels in this area were limited. Initially, we booked a different smoke free hotel, but when we checked-in, the front desk/lobby and elevator smelled marijuana and the check-in staff was high then the room smelled funny, it wasn't ready nor clean! We asked for a refund and left.
Initial check-in was fine. Front-desk personnel appeared friendly. Lobby is clean and offers a welcoming feel to it. Community room is nice to watch TV or work remotely in quiet space. The room looked nice and clean, but needs a face lift. The molding/crowns is poorly done, so it made the space feels less value/quality than it appears online. TV remote, decor (arts), lamps could be updated and night stand/desk areas could supply devices charging stations. The beds were too firm and uncomfortable, hurt our backs through entire stay. A couple maintenance are needed: window screen has a large tear plus middle dresser drawer keeps sliding open. Many huge pot holes in parking lot, drive carefully.
Though, advertised as 100% smoke-free, there were 3-4 instances when elevators and our floor stank of weed and cigarettes. Management doesn't walk the building? Most staff were quiet, no interaction/greetings towards guests and some offers no friendly faces or smiles, like annoyed being at work. Housekeeping were great!
