Nagarekawa Street, located in the Nagarekawa district of Hiroshima, is the largest entertainment district in the Chugoku-Shikoku region. The place is packed with restaurants and neon lights that illuminate the night.

The name Nagarekawa (literally, "flowing river") comes the history of a canal that used to flow here and was reclaimed in 1913. Together with the parallel or intersecting Yagenbori Street, Butsudan Street, and Ebisu Street, this is one of the 4 main streets and is always buzzing with life. Nagarekawa Street is about 10 minutes by Hiroshima Electric Railway from Hiroshima Station, with the fifth station, Ebisucho, the best access point. The Mitsukoshi Department Store marks the entrance of Nagarekawa Street.

Machiya Street in Miyajima, Aki, is designated as one of The Three Views of Japan. It's a calm street on the main mountain side of Omotesando Shopping Street, and is lined with retro-modern inns, shops, and galleries that incorporate traditional machiya (townhouse) architecture and modern sensibilities.

This used to be Miyajima's main street, but after World War II, tourists flowed to Omotesando Shopping Street instead. However, the historical townscape here started attracting attention again in recent years, and its popularity as a place to take a walk led to its rechristening as "Machiya Street". At night, paper-covered lanterns glow on the eaves of the townhouses, creating a lovely warm atmosphere.

    Bar Alegre

An authentic bar with a very Japanese atmosphere

    Bar Alegre
    • Ambiente nocturno

Bar Alegre is a hidden gem. In this lovely space you'll hear the sound of cocktails being shaken by the national prize-winning bartender.

The height of the entrance door is only about 130 cm, and it was deliberately designed this way to resemble a miniature tearoom entrance. Once inside, it's as though all of the customers (including samurai, perhaps) abandon their social position (or put down their swords, to stretch the metaphor), bow their heads deeply, and spend their time informally relaxing and enjoying the company. In addition to seasonal fresh fruit cocktails and original cocktails, the bar also has a great selection of whiskeys. This is a fine place to spend the evening.

    MAC

An atmospheric bar rooted in Hiroshima for more than 40 years

    MAC
    • Ambiente nocturno

MAC is a bar that has been operating in the middle of Hiroshima for over 40 years. It's a cosy place with many, many regulars.

The original owner was a local legend who died after the first store was temporarily closed due to the deterioration of the building in which it was located but was reopened by a business partner in 2017. A hugely impressive collection of CDs covers the walls. Most of the music is American rock that the original owner loved, but feel free to make requests for whatever kind of music you like. This is the kind of bar where everyone knows your name.

HERBIE HIROSHIMA is a next-generation resort nightclub located in downtown Nagarekawa in Hiroshima. The door opens into another world, a cosmic dancefloor.

With countless moving lights diffusely reflected, even veteran clubbers will feel spaced out on the main floor. The huge 3D LED and the bangin' sound system are overwhelming, in a good way. The VIP area features seating for women only, powder rooms, and a smorgasbord of all-you-can-eat sweets, so for girls who just wanna have fun, this is the place to be.
