This was easily one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. At 7pm—an entirely reasonable arrival time—there was no staff to let us in. We were left stranded outside for hours. When someone finally appeared, we discovered our rooms had been double-booked. Instead of honoring what we reserved, they shoved us into the wrong rooms and even forced us to share with strangers. No apology, no refund, no accountability.
The hotel was dirty and disorganized, and the staff’s behavior was consistently rude and dismissive. Housekeeping never serviced our rooms. When we asked for clean towels, an employee flooded our bathroom by leaving the bidet running, then blamed us. The AC stopped working, and rather than fix it or move us, they told us to squeeze into another guest’s room.
Worse, they were outright scamming guests. As first-timers in Tunisia, we trusted them to arrange taxis, only to learn they were massively overcharging. For a short 20-minute ride from Hergla to Sousse, they called “friends” who charged $50 CAD each way. Later, with the help of a local, we paid only $10 CAD. When confronted, staff lied and tried to cover it up with nonsense about “currency differences.”
To top it all off, we even witnessed a staff member physically assault a guest. At that point, we had no choice but to abandon the hotel altogether and pay for new accommodations, losing money in the process.
Dar Yessine is unsafe, dishonest, and run with zero respect for its guests. Please avoid at all cost
