"room is fine - getting old and tired and needs a reno but the bigger concern was while i was in the room someone else was able to access my room. They swipped themselves in - realised someone else was in there said' sorry' and left. I contacted reception to ask if this was staff or another guest with the incorrect key access. they did not answer so i left a message. there has been zero response to this. The security chain on the door has been removed so there is no way to stop this occurring overnight which did not make me feel safe. I advised the morning staff of this issue and was told this was impossible. - it would be less possible if the security chain hadn't been removed."

"Had a great stay with a good sized room and a neat view from the little balcony. Some recent renovations evident made for a tidy stay. Great staff were all very helpful and professional."

"This hotel is tired and dated. Whilst the staff make every effort to be great hosts the whole venue lacks any wow factor. The walls are damaged and marked - rips out of wallpaper. There are no lifts so you can expect to carry your own luggage up the stairs. My bathroom was full of hair when I arrived, I asked for it to be cleaned. The manager sent the trainee from the restaurant up to clean with a microfibre cloth - at 10pm they arrived with a vacuum. Dinner was a shambles - ordered a Medium Rare steak - it was medium well, served with YELLOW broccoli and 'bubble n squeak' was mash with cabbage mixed through. To compensate for the state of my room I was offered breakfast complementary - declined. Beds are comfortable, showers need a deep clean to remove all the mold from the edges. Disappointing venue and should not carry the Distinction Branding - no comparison to Christchurch. Management should invest in the whole venue. Expensive accomodation for what received"
