The town is definitely a bit depressed economically and not a lot going on. That being said the Hotel Tindastoll is a bright light in the grey town. The hotel is on the national register and is a quaint and charming place - a strong contrast to a lot of iceland's very modern decor. Dagmar - the manager/host of the hotel is extremely helpful and nice. Our rooms were large and comfortable. The hotel has a nice "sitting room" that allowed us to relax with a glass of wine as we read and reviewed...
I very much loved this beautiful place! It's situated in a neighborhood that looks completely like what I expected Iceland to look like. The staff there were all very, very kind and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable. And the water view allowed me a most beautiful view of the sunset, so peaceful and restful! I'd stay here again the next time I visit. Thanks to all the staff for making me feel so at home.
Room, bathroom, and shared areas (kitchen, living space) very clean. Check in was easy, somehow check in person knew when we arrived and met us at the outside door. However, the description incorrectly indicated breakfast was available, and there are no places nearby to get breakfast.
This was one of our most favorite stays during our travels along Iceland's Ring Road. The location is a bit remote, so be aware when planning for food or other things to do. We used this location simply based on our itinerary, but we're so glad we did! Beautiful and romantic cottages in the woods of northern Iceland. Lovely furnishings with romantic touches like candles, bathrobes and bedding. Well kept, clean and fabulous outdoor hot tub. Plus very convenient to outstanding river rafting with Viking!
No communication or appearance by staff except the email before arrival. The hot tub signage was not easy to locate and it took over 2 hours for tub to fill, as apparently it is emptied nightly instead of being covered. Other than that the rooms, showers and beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is clean and food available for breakfast. A bit tight in the kitchen if everyone who stayed needed to use it at the same time
We could check-in early. The staff was helpful. Amazing kitchen with amenities and cooking needs. Good laundry facilities. The owner met with us and we had a nice chat. Great location to stay between Akureyri and Reykjavik.
We loved staying here! The room was a little worn, but it was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again because of the beauty of the surroundings.
Ok people, these cabins are SO spacious. You'll get a good sized fridge, a real coffee maker, a tea kettle, a microwave, plenty of cookware and dishes, and a two hob stove (not induction) that is very easy to operate. Zero complaints from us.
We stayed here in early May and practically had the hotel to ourselves. I think only one other couple was staying that night. Despite having so few customers, the hotel put out their extensive buffet breakfast as usual. That was impressive! The room was comfortable and spotless. The location is convenient for visiting the Glaumbaer turf house museum and exploring the Skagafjordur area (a birder's delight).
