This place is a gem. It is authentic to the Lake Orta area (near train station and a reasonable walk to the lake), but it is also welcoming to visitors from around the world. Nice family vibe but also would be good for a couple. The restaurant next door served a perfectly memorable dinner, and they also provided a delightful picnic lunch. Breakfast is regional--farm fresh. The room is modern, simple, clean. We would love to return.
It was a perfect choice to stay the night before we flew out of Milan. Friendly service, delicious breakfast, great spacious rooms and short walk to train station. Perfect stay and would recommend to anybody!
The young woman at the reservation desk who greeted us was lovely and helpful. Her suggestions for the day and where to have lunch in Arona were most enjoyable. In the evening, a gentleman at the desk directed us to a restaurant nearer the hotel for dinner, not near the lake. Our fault for not being specific. All in all, a good choice for a close location to the airport.
Be careful staying at the Regina Palace - you may be overwhelmed as there is style everywhere you look.
Older building, not too large by modern standards, nice elegant rooms. Just beautiful downstairs areas. Large breakfast room with terrace overlooking the lawns and one main restaurant. Access to Spa and indoor pool included. Outdoor pool among the gardens. One day a guest's 1960 Ferrari parked out the back with the top down - just like that ! One night tango dancing on the hotel...
Great place to stay in Stresa. It's excellent but don't expect it to be like the Ritz. Within town center and 5mins walk to the ferry landing. However, it's a 15mins walk to the train station on cobblestone roads so pulling the suitcase was not as smooth. The A/C worked nicely and the bed was comfortable. Staff were very nice and welcoming. Enough time to hop on the ferry and visit other towns along Lake Maggiore.

We looked all over the area for the best place to stay within our budget. There are some very fancy high-end hotels that are available in Stresa and Baveno, but I have to say that we lucked out when we selected this one. The location is absolutely perfect: just steps from the ferry for Isole Borromee (Madre, Bella, Superiore) - and the view is even better of these islands from Baveno than Stresa. The Elena is an unpretentious hotel supplying an excellent place to rest. The Elena is scrupulously clean and peacefully quiet with an attentively understated, outstanding level of service. Thus the Elena fulfilled precisely what I was looking for in a hotel at an attractive price. I am not well versed in the hotel star rating system (I am constantly shocked at the poor performance of most five stars that nightly charge for a single night what costs a week at the Elena). Loved the Free Shuttle Service. People at front desk were very helpful when looking for a place to dine. Also, when I emailed them pre-arrival, they were very quick to respond and helpful.
