The cabina had an extra extraordinary view. We loved that the bedrooms were closed off and did have air conditioning, but that the rest of the unit was completely open The house cleaning staff did an excellent job of cleaning every morning I had laundry done, and it was very reasonably priced and done very well The unit is within walking distance to almost everything but best of all the beach is right there!

You are in a remote lodge where you hike in for 45 min to 3 hours depending on how many animals( monkeys, anteaters, scarlet macaws) you stop to watch. A horse cart brings in your luggage. There is no air conditioning, hot water or wifi but the food is fantastic and the smoothies delicious. There several activities available including a tour of Corcavado NP, night hikes and turtle hikes in season. If you can't stand the heat and humidity don't go. Solid choice for stays in Drake. AC in rooms. Fairly simple clean rooms. Saw Capuchin monkeys and other animals in the early morning and evening from the terrace overlooking the forest. Up the hill from the bay near restaurants.

I was at the last cabana on the ridge. It had a kitchen in an attached room. It was great to bring back leftovers, make coffee and enjoy local fruit. There were 2 beds, a king and queen. The shower was walk in and everything worked well and was very clean. I ate at the table on the patio, enjoyed the hammock, and entertained by a multitude of birds, ant eater and ajouti. I would definitely come back.

Really great staff who really know the area and cultivate the farm. They can give you information on ecology you won't find outside of guided tour groups in the park, and there's also yoga. The property is beautiful and it is easy to see birds. It is a pretty primitive property and so you should be expecting bug bites and no modern comforts. Bathing in rainwater is amazing, but it is also not warm. Also the ants really bite- I was itchy for a week afterward. So be careful.

Really laid back / cool place with everything you need. Best night of sleep in a hotel in a long time.

My whole family loved our stay at Hotel Margarita in August 2024. The area of Drake Bay was pretty, but it is very rustic (dirt roads, limited dining, restaurants are open-air with no A/C, etc). A cute super well ran hotel away from town, the staff was the best we've ever had at a location. This is a family run place that makes you feel like family while you are there. The food is great! We stayed 8 days and never repeat a breakfast. The staff set up 7 different excursions with us and coordinated our pick up and drop offs. Sunset Lodge truly did have one of the best views in Drake bay! It’s worth spending a little more to get the bungalow with the pool. It was great hanging out on the deck after a day at the beach or doing a guided activity. Also, if you like birding it’s a great spot to sit and watch! We spent four nights at Poor Man's, including New Year's Eve. I was hoping to find a place where we could really get away from the world, and this was perfect. We didn't even make any plans ahead of time as far as tours or what to do, but by the time we left we had visited Corcovado, snorkeled on Cano Island, Canoed up the Rio Claro, and swam and relaxed at Playa Josecito. If you are looking for a regular hotel experience then this is not for you, however if you want a true home away from home experience with the local Tico family then you cannot go wrong with this option. Edward the reservations lead is always present and the kitchen is run by his mom and sister. The dad is the wealth of knowledge about local area and the uncle is the gardener. The abundant fruit trees was a pleasant surprise and so was the close proximity of the Macaws.

It is a true rare gem. A wonderful lodge in the middle of the jungle. Our villa was spacious. It has two huge rooms and a giant porch where we saw monkeys. I was grilling to the sound of howler monkeys. The owners are a young Danish couple who are welcoming and helpful. They are building a big pool which is going to be ready in the next few weeks.
