L'Ardiden was an unexpected delight. It's perched above a river with great mountain views from the rooms and a small balcony. The room was plain, but clean and modern and the bathroom was quite clean and spacious. The location is near the thermal baths, a bit removed from Luz St. Sauveur; however, I preferred being away from the traffic in Luz. It's about a 10 minute walk into Luz. This is a great place to experience Luz, Gavarnie and other regional attractions.

The first thing I have to mention is the excellent staff. Every one of them was polite, attentive and helpful and communicated well in spite of the language barrier. I didn’t speak a word of French but they did their best to communicate in English and they did a great job. Garden and City has lots of common spaces to hang around after a hard day of hiking. Beautiful, old stone building. View from the front terrace and dining room is looking right at the Cirque de Gavarnie. Great access to hiking trails around this Cirque and also access to hikes into adjacent Cirques. The room was basic and dated, but clean and comfortable, nonetheless. A few oddities like no place to hang a towel, or the hall light didn't turn on when leaving the room (motion sensor was at the elevator end of the hall).
