The dramatic 90-step cathedral staircase rewards climbers with breathtaking views, while the 12th-century Arab Baths offer cool respite from Mediterranean sunshine. History buffs will love exploring Roman ruins and the remarkably preserved Jewish Quarter with its hidden courtyards. Traditional Catalan taverns serve local specialties like botifarra sausage in atmospheric stone-walled dining rooms. Boutique hotels in converted medieval palaces offer modern comforts with centuries-old character. The entirely pedestrian-friendly neighborhood invites exploration on foot, though steep inclines challenge those with mobility issues.

Ancient stone walls embrace a medieval labyrinth where Gothic spires pierce the Catalan sky. The magnificent cathedral dominates the old quarter, its steps featured in 'Game of Thrones' and worth every huff and puff to climb. Cross the Eiffel Bridge spanning the Onyar River, where colorful houses reflect in the water like an impressionist painting. The Jewish Quarter's narrow cobblestone alleys hide secret courtyards and the fascinating Jewish History Museum. Walk the complete Roman walls for panoramic views that explain why empires fought over this strategic spot. After exploring the Cinema Museum, recover with local vermouth at a plaza café where sunlight dapples ancient stones that have witnessed two thousand years of history.

Hotel Gran Ultonia
"Perfect location close to historic centre. Parking available with lift access to rooms (supplement). Pet friendly (supplement). Delicious breakfast buffet with excellent choice. Discount if eating in hotel restaurant. Clean rooms."
Hotel Costabella
"Great hotel , rated 3 stars but honestly much better than many 4 star hotels I have stayed in. Pool was lovely and a nice touch having an “honesty “ bar. Lovely breakfast with super choice Near two bus stops into the city though the walk is less than 20 minutes Would highly recommend"
Hotel Palau de Bellavista Girona by URH
"The hotel is in a great position with panoramic views of Girona. Obviously to get these views it's a bit of a climb from the centre, but I'm quite hill averse and it was fine. Worth mentioning that none of the bedrooms enjoy this view - or I believe, a balcony. We only stayed 2 nights so were fine with that. There is a very large terrace which does enjoy the extensive views, along with a small but very much appreciated pool & loungers. The hotel will provide towels. No tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom which is always a downer for us, but very common in Europe."
