Downtown Truckee
Downtown Truckee captures Gold Rush charm with its weathered brick facades and wooden storefronts lining historic Commercial Row. The Old Jail Museum and Railroad Museum tell stories of the town's 19th-century logging and railroad past. Wander past Victorian-era buildings or check out the iconic Rocking Stone Tower before relaxing by the crystal-clear Truckee River that flows through town. Mountain comfort food dominates the dining scene with hearty American fare and craft beer options. Boutique hotels and cozy bed & breakfasts offer fireplaces and mountain views for overnight stays. The compact downtown is easily explored on foot, with the free trolley connecting to Northstar during ski season.

Northstar
The Northstar neighborhood has lots to see including Northstar Golf Course and Northstar California Resort.

Northstar Village
Northstar Village turns mountain life into a vacation fantasy with its car-free, alpine-style wonderland. The pedestrian plaza buzzes with skiers and shoppers circling the centerpiece ice skating rink. Hit the slopes via the Big Springs Express Gondola in winter or tackle mountain biking trails when the snow melts. Fire pits invite you to kick back with hot chocolate while watching the sunset paint Tahoe's mountains. Upscale restaurants serve farm-to-table cuisine that tastes even better after a day outdoors. Luxury condos and boutique hotels offer cozy fireplaces and mountain views, though they command premium prices. The heated walkways make exploring this compact village a breeze, even in your snow boots.

Donner Lake Woods
Donner Lake Woods delivers a classic mountain getaway with pine-scented air and sparkling lake waters. Water lovers can paddle across crystal-clear Donner Lake or relax on West End Beach while soaking up Sierra Nevada views. This neighborhood offers the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and peaceful seclusion, with informal hiking trails winding through wooded areas and pristine shorelines waiting to be explored. Vacation rental cabins and lakefront homes with rustic charm provide full kitchens and outdoor decks for stargazing. You'll need a car to access this quiet retreat, as public transit is limited. Most visitors bring groceries from nearby Truckee, embracing the self-sufficient cabin culture that makes this forest hideaway special.

Tucked into the Sierra Nevada mountains, this former railroad town offers a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and small-town charm. Carve fresh powder at Northstar California Resort in winter or tee off at Old Greenwood Golf Course when the snow melts. Paddle across crystal-clear Donner Lake where mountains create a stunning backdrop. Hyatt Vacation Club at Northstar Lodge, Lake Tahoe
"Lizzy the person of reception for check in was very unwelcoming and rude not interested in her job. She was the only disappointment and everything else with the property and accommodation was great 👍"
Northstar Resort by Vail Resorts
"The Northstar resort Village was a nice stay. Not too shabby, I would have appreciated a better coffee maker and cleaner living spaces"
Village Camp Truckee
"Cabin was fresh and inviting; the dog park was top notch in that they were both large and clean, and the included barbecue for Labor Day was a pleasant surprise. Would recommend for location to Lake Tahoe and Reno as well!"
Martis Valley Lodge, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
"Great"
Donner Lake Inn
"Beautiful area nice cozy’s, , close to Donner Lake and not too far from Lake Tahoe. We had a wonderful time there"
West River House
"Had a great stay of several days. The room and bathrooms were very clean and well maintained. Mattress and bedding was very comfortable even though I have a sore back from time to time. Did not negatively impact my back at all!!! Plenty of hot water for showers - no issues at all. Staff on duty (Liam, the manager) was very helpful with local suggestions of places to go and things to do. I would without hesitation book here again!! The area has plenty of things to do and see all year round --- hiking, skiing, exploring, boating, sport fishing, river rafting, etc. There was even a rodeo nearby during my stay, including a concert. Movie theaters pretty close by also if it's a rainy day. Numerous good places to eat --- even a bakery/breakfast-lunch kitchen next door and a place to rent a kayak or bicycles. Terrific hotel and location."

The Cottages at Old Greenwood
