Learn more about Walsenburg
Between the Eastern Plains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this former mining town offers a glimpse into Colorado's rugged past. The Museum of Friends and Walsenburg Mining Museum bring local heritage to life through thoughtful exhibits. Freight trains rumble through downtown at all hours, their whistles a reminder of the town's railroad roots. Take a short drive to Lathrop State Park for fishing and hiking, or venture along the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway for mountain vistas that explain why locals never tire of the view. The nearby Spanish Peaks offer trails for every ability level. Cool off at Walsenburg Wild Waters after exploring the colorful murals that tell stories of 'La Plaza de los Leones' and its transformation through the decades.

Days Inn by Wyndham Colorado City
"The motel was clean and comfortable, just on the older side and worn out. It is inexpensive and great for a quick stop to sleep, but if we were staying for an extended time we would get somewhere nicer and with breakfast. The staff was very helpful and polite. Check in and check out were easy. To fit the rollaway bed in the room we had to move the chairs and put the desk between the beds, so it was cramped."
Dodgeton Creek Inn
"We were warmly welcomed by Mike. Great venue and Mike is a wealth of information on the area. Breakfast was good and lots of coffee. I will go back. Toni"
