Staying at Ye Olde Red Lion was a fun experience. It is probably the most unique place I've stayed with its blending of old, old and new and updated rooms. I would stay here again. We were in Arran Room which was very nice other than the mattress should be replaced. It is uncomfortable. The outside grounds need some cleaning and TLC, too. Had a great stay at the Hare and the Hound. Great patio next to the restaurant to gather after a fun day and breakfast was really well put together. Room was cozy and comfy and the staff left a nice little surprise in the room.

This is a charming, family-run inn near Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey). The accommodations were comfortable although simple, and the pub is fantastic, with really excellent food. The service by the family that owns th Inn and their employees is very good. The prices are reasonable, and the locals are friendly. The garden is very pretty also. No complaints, would stay again. The tomato soup and goat cheese salad were standouts.
Perfect location in Abingdon and just minutes walk to buses to Oxford if that's your interest. Took about 25-30 minutes to get into downtown Oxford on the 2 or 3 buses...very easy.
