1. Gotland

Whether you’re exploring the island’s natural treasures or delving into its unique and storied Viking history, there’s something for every visitor to Gotland, the largest island in Sweden. Sea stacks, or raukar in Swedish, are the natural limestone monoliths found around the island. Explore them by embarking on the Östkustleden, a 78-km-long hiking trail.

A visit to Gotland wouldn’t be complete without heading to Visby. Dating back to the 12th century, here you’ll find the ruins of historic churches and a well-preserved medieval wall as well as archaeological finds dating back to the Vikings. Plus, if you visit in the spring you’ll be treated to the town’s lush gardens and the smell of roses that fills the air.
