Scammed at Hotel Zambezi, Conakry – A Warning for Travelers
Staying at Hotel Zambezi was a costly mistake. I was conned out of 1.5 million Guinea Francs in what felt like a well-coordinated scam involving hotel staff, the supervisor, and the manager. A friendly "guest" at the bar insisted on buying me a drink. He seemed genuine—until I was slapped with his tab at checkout.
Language barriers made my protests useless, and the manager, despite claiming American experience, refused to listen. With the scammer vanished, I was forced to pay up—practically frog-marched to Western Union to settle the bill.
If you don’t speak French or are approached by a smooth-talking stranger at Hotel Zambezi, beware—you might be next. I’ll never set foot in Guinea again.
