The rooms were very nice and impeccably clean. The staff were also very welcoming and friendly. The grounds were well taken care of, great wifi, comfortable beds, and overall the place was nicer than what often pops to one's mind with the word "motel."
That said, we did have some significant issues during our stay. The first night we had no hot water. They fixed this the next morning so not a huge deal, and I wouldn't even mention it if we didn't have another significant issue. We were there during a heat wave and the third (last) day the a/c wasn't working well, so our room was around 90 degrees when we got back for the night. This is a family-run motel so I get that staff isn't reachable after 9pm. However, having no on-call maintenance line meant that neither of our issues could be addressed until the next day, so our first night was spent going to bed feeling grimey after all day in the car, and our last night was spent sleepless due to malfunctioning a/c. Even the ability to get a fan would have made a huge difference.
I did alert the staff about the a/c when we checked out, and while they said they would look into it, there was no offer of a partial refund or anything like that. For a motel room that was over $100/night, I was a bit surprised that there was no attempt to make things right, given that we didn't have basics for 2 out of our 3 nights.
