Cute B and B with its own Character
Lovely stay, staff are so welcoming and can not do enough for you. It has a very 'horsey' theme throughout which is cute. We had a meal on the first evening and the homemade pie was gorgeous. Breakfast was average, and nothing much for vegetarians. Lovely location. We would definitely stay again.

Rooms clean but the pub it self and dining area very grubby. Very noisy the pub was open till about 1 am so we didn’t get any sleep before that time. Which made us quite tired following day. Breakfast first morning lovely. Breakfast second morning was cold. Village was lovely.

Nice hotel in the centre of Middleham. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room a little small, fine for a night though. And they had a guitar to play!

Do stay at the weekend and definitely not in room
Everything was ok about the check in and evening meal but went downhill thereafter. We were allocated a room above the bar, it was Saturday any plenty of people turned up for the musical and joviality which continued until 12.30 when the music subsided. From then until 3am the lock in banter continued until the last one left. We were exhausted and decided to cut short the break and go home. Can't understand why the hotel thought this appropriate.

Lovely stay, nice evening meal
We had a lovely stay at the Richard lII. Our evening was very tasty and nicely presented as was the breakfast. The atmosphere in the evening was very cosy with candles on all the tables. Middleham is beautiful village. Woke up to the race horses trotting up the street to their gallops. Highly recommended!

Traditional pub in centre of village, good base for discovering The Dales. Stayed in "Richard the Third" room, which was clean, with comfortable bed. Good en suite but shower attached to bath taps, so low pressure. Friendly, attentive staff, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Excellent breakfasts and meals. Would recommend.

A good night
Warm welcome on a very wet and wind evening. Had a lovely meal. Staff very friendly and helpful. Due to the storm the electric went off. The staff went over and beyond to make the situation comfortable for us.

Very tired place. Food and service great. Staff very accommodating. Can be a bit noisy in bedrooms above bar. Parking can be a problem.

Enjoyable stay
The bed was incredibly comfortable, the whole room and bathroom was really clean and well put together. The breakfast was lovely and staff really friendly. The only negatives were minor (what you would expect from an older building), the walls are thin and you can hear people in other rooms next to you and walking around, I woke up and could hear people walking around upstairs etc. The wifi is also not good in the rooms.

The property was close to the forbidden corner, which was the main reason for choosing this hotel. The service was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The only down side was the wifi, perfect downstairs but not in the room. I chose this hotel because it said there was wifi in the room. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case.. we had our evening meal at the pub which was lovely and the breakfast the next morning was also really good.

This hotel is obviously very old and full of character. We felt it could do with some updating though, especially in the bedrooms/bathroom. Our rooma was adequate for one nights stay, we didnt get alot of sleep as it was far too hot and the noise from creaky floorboards from the room above was extremely loud also could hear toilets flushing and talking/coughing from adjacent room. The food on an evening was very nice however breakfast the next morning was a little unorganised, only one staff member who seemed to be doing everthing. Definately could have done with extra help. Overall we had an ok stay but doubt we would return.

Fabulous stay!
Lovely place, very welcoming. Wonderful 3 course meal in the evening, all cooked from scratch and tasty and the breakfast was the best I’ve had in a long time. Dog friendly, he loved it. We were lucky enough to stay in a room that overlooked the centre with plenty of horses travelling through. We had a couple of walks and a visit to the Castle. Middleham is small with beautiful countryside and the local beers are well worth a try. We will be back as 10/10. Before booking we looked at previously reviews which were all very good apart from one which was low, can honestly say the review did not sound like this hotel at all. It is an older building with lots of character, is comfortable and everyone we came into contact with were friendly, helpful and welcoming.

This is without doubt how you do hospitality!
The staff are everything at this place. If anyone should write a handbook on how to do hospitality it’s these guys. From the moment we arrived at a packed pub it was clear that they would do anything. They opened up another part of the pub for us just so we could get food and slotted us in. We were told it could be a wait which we didn’t mind….. It wasn’t! The next morning breakfast was laid out for us. Nothing was too much for our 3 year old. Vicky put cartoons on for her, midge got her a glass of milk and they even cheered her on with her eggs. Next morning they had remembered her milk and it was on the table. Even changed her order for her because she wanted something else. She loved telling them about her day and what she had done. The room was comfortable and incredibly clean. The bathroom is dated but very well looked after. Bed already out for our daughter ready for her. Only downside was being 35 weeks pregnant I struggled to get through the shower door. It was too tight. Only other slight downside is that soundproofing definitely isn’t a thing and you can hear everything. Doors next to you sound like someone is coming in your room. Considering it’s a pub hotel you expect noise which isn’t a problem. Usual muffled sounds of people having a good time downstairs. I wasn’t quite expecting to hear as much as we could. It didn’t ruin our stay though because as I said this place has the most incredible staff and the food is great traditional pub food!
