Amazing! A Must Stay in Cruden Bay

Our stay with Celia at By the Bay was wonderful. It was easy to communicate with the lister and our accommodations were amazing. Our breakfast in the morning was well presented and perfect to get your day started.

Absolutely perfect B&B for what we needed beautifully modern inside but cleverly decorates with just enough local Scottish seaside flavour. The room was small but the clever way it was put together made it feel cozy rather than cramped. The bathroom was modern and beautifully appointed and immaculately clean (very important on a 2 week road trip around the UK) There is a well equipped CoOp very close and the Killmarnock Arms hotel is a very short walk away. Excellent food (bring your appetite the servings are huge), lovely staff and a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant. It is a perfect spot to base yourself if you want a small seaside village feel because it is only a relatively short drive to Banff and other picturesque seaside historic villages like Cullen, If it is sunny, (the stunning village location for the 1983 classic 'Local Hero' (still an enormously enjoyable movie that gets 99% on Rotten Tomatoes even today) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennan is a must see via a winding drive on a classic narrow country road through absolutely beautiful countryside! Pennan will stun you as it is a strip of colourful historic cottages, tucked up against a towering cliff face, a stunning bay and at the end of the breakwater a charming coffee 'hut' with a delightful owner to chat to in season. We enjoyed this B&B so much we extended our stay. Breakfast is continental style and self serve but we are not really breakfast people so that didn't bother us. Beautiful!!!

Modern Property

Very modern property clean with private access, great shower and the room has own temperature control. Did not have breakfast so cant comment but dinning area was very well laid out and again modern. Would definitely come back.

Nice and friendly host. All following COVID guidelines and very clean. Choice of brown toast would be nice but getting picky there! Didn't get a VAT receipt (business trip) and struggling to get a response from the host.

SECOND VISIT BUT WILL NEVER RETURN

I have stayed here before & left a raving review as had a great experience - but unfortunately not this time. I am travelling on my own with work & my employer ALWAYS books a double room with an en suite. When I arrived Celia took me to a room with single beds?? I said no, I have an executive room with an en suite. She said the only room left was this one with single beds or one that wasnt en suite but the bathroom was along the hallway. I was not happy but thought its now going into evening - but really annoyed as I had put an extra 40 minutes commute both ways to stay here. I reluctantly agreed to this. Then Celia said she would leave my new room key on the table downstairs. I then went to this SHARED BATHROOM to freshen up then was going out for a walk. Went downstairs to get key and Celia said she had left them in my room??? What??? When?? Oh when I was in this shared bathroom she went into my room? That is an absolute breach of my privacy and I was so offended and annoyed. WHO DOES THAT??? Later on I was getting more annoyed as when I went to this shared bathroom I had to lock my bedroom door - creep along - and was even worse when I had to go for a shower as I had to take everything. I left early next morning without evening saying goodbye - contacted Hotel.com who were great and refunded me my money in full. Never will I recommend this place now. Will never return. There was no apology last night either - a female travelling on her own & I get a shared bathroom?

Very friendly hosts lovely cooked breakfast one of the nicest I’ve had. Unfortunately for me I found my pillows very hard with no give, and no choice to change so hardly slept but I believe from talking with the hosts that this was a oversight and a choice of pillows should have been provided

Amazing luxurious accommodation!

I stay regularly in hotels/Guest houses due to my work. I have had so many nightmares with bad accommodation I come to expect it nowadays - however this incredible place has got to be the best place I’ve ever stayed in when travelling with work. The place is spotless - welcoming - incredibly modern and everything has been done to a VERY high standard. Its so so comfortable and it was honestly the best nights sleep I have had in weeks. The bed - the pillows - luxury and so comfortable. Your feet just sink into the thick carpet as well. The shower is so powerful and amazing! Thick lovely towels and plenty of toiletries also. Another great touch is the china mugs and the small fridge with bottles of water. The owners are so welcoming and can’t do enough to make you feel welcome. Breakfast is cooked to order and served on china plates complete with silver tea pot - they have thought of absolutely everything! This property is so luxurious - I will definitely return not just for business but for pleasure too as the area is lovely and relaxing.

Peterhead jaunt

Last minute decision. B&B finished to a really high standard in a quiet location in Cruden Bay. Room was lovely. Our host, Celia, was charming and served a delicious breakfast. Would recommend to all.
