A characterful pub/hotel in a lovely street (with bunting) that’s full of interesting small shops. Like many pubs these days, it’s tired but v. clean and they’re clearly trying cosmetic improvements : modern wallpaper, curtains, etc. Staff are charming and welcoming. Parking was fine - directions to small pub car park were simple to follow. Good atmosphere (Friday night) but nice and quiet in our room. Meal was nicely presented - but much more curry sauce, please, and pastry on meat pie was too thick. Cooked breakfast was excellent - but croissants should really be warm and freshly baked or just stick to Danish pastries. More info about local beers in the bar would be good (!) Otherwise, the location is perfect : minutes from shops, museum and cathedral. All worth a visit. Thanks for a pleasant stay but some more basic updating IS still required, eg carpets, grouting, sanitary suites.
