This hotel stands out for its proximity to shops, restaurants, outdoor areas, and tourist sites. The reception staff were lovely and very attentive, and the facilities (gym, spa, laundry) were very appreciated. The rooms were dated, but fairly well kept, and the beds were comfy. On the negative side, the shower was too small to be used effectively (the water angle cannot be adjusted and shoots at the shower doors, flowing over the head of shorter guests) and occasionally didn’t have hot water, with seemingly random timing. The hot water did eventually return if you waited a few minutes or hours and retried. Though I know the cleaning staff worked hard, I saw a couple of cockroaches in the room. I was also harassed by a couple of mosquitoes at night, despite being on a high floor with closed windows.
The restaurant left a lot to be desired. The staff often disappeared and was difficult to re-engage, and then even when you did manage to find someone, much of the food was not available to be ordered. Breakfast was also very limited, and frequently featured non-breakfast food. I’m not sure about room service; I tried it once, but was told that what I wanted to order wasn’t available. Luckily, there are very good restaurants nearby, and Tomoca was great for morning coffee, so you don’t have to stick to their offerings.
All in all, I don’t think I’d call it 4 stars, but the price is pretty unbeatable, and the negatives were manageable.
