We booked to stay as it was close to St Mary's Hospital where our son was being treated for cancer (he has since passed away) On arrival we were shown to our room which although lovely, spacious & full of character, needed a good clean as there were even cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. However, the bedding was spotless & the bed very comfortable.
We told the owner, Julie, why we were there & told her, when she asked, that we would need our breakfast at about 8.00 am but would inform her when we returned that evening if there were any changes. However, when we returned at approximatelt 7.00 pm we looked around, rang bells, etc. etc. but could not summon anyone to tell so we took ourselves off to bed as it had been a long & tiring day.
The following morning we went down to breakfast at 07.55 am. There was one other guest in the dining room eating his breakfast but no staff appeared. The other guest left but still no staff member appeared & after waiting half an hour, during which time we were shouting out throughout the house, & ringing the doorbell continually, we just had to grab a couple of bananas which were laid on the sideboard so that we could quickly return to the hospital.
Julie did, at that stage appear & apologised, saying she was in "the extension" & had not heard us, & as she felt it was her husband's turn to cook our breakfast she had not bothered to go to the dining room.
It was not cheap to stay there either with such bad service
