Poor bathroom hygiene, suspected mould and inadequate ventilation
The apartment had no apparent ventilation system, and the air quickly became stale and stuffy. As it was on the ground floor with traffic directly outside, keeping the windows open was not a comfortable option.
The bathroom was particularly disappointing. Despite having an extractor fan and heated towel rail, it remained constantly damp and never dried properly. Extensive black deposits resembling mould were visible on the shower walls and floor, especially along the grout joints and around the drain (see photos). The grout was heavily soiled and blackened. Water drained very slowly, raising concerns about inadequate cleaning and maintenance of the drain.
In the bedroom, much of the floor grout was also black with ingrained dirt.
I contacted the host about these issues but received no response.
Although the rest of the apartment was generally clean and satisfactory, the poor bathroom hygiene, suspected mould, slow drainage and inadequate ventilation were unacceptable.
