This hotel has had a chequered past, furniture in the room was very rough and messed up, the shower lacked a cubicle door ,,,, but it was clean, new carpets, nice bedding, the lift worked and above all unbelievably cheap...; I got a twin room en suite with breakfast for £40!

You get what you pay for. The room was clean but tired. Mattress needs replacing, shower leaked on floor not sure where from and some furniture had no handles. However it was close to town and plenty of parking. Council car park you can park for free on a Sunday or it's 50p an hour. Staff seemed friendly. Continental breakfast only

With the hotel only being open for a week things were a bit haphazard, TV was broken,(was replaced) shower tray wouldn’t empty, single sink tap stuck on boiling some dubious people wondering around and on going out we where on the 5th floor and when lift door opened the check in girl had a big Bearly Yorkshire Police officer each side of her.

Ideal place to stay for a gig at The Piece Hall, but our room was grotty. Stains on the carpet, scribbles and writing on the furniture, a headboard that was peeling. A fan would have been nice in the room because it was so hot. No air-con. Our room card would not work despite going back down to the desk twice. The guy on reception was very friendly and welcoming though.

Acceptable for the location to the piece hall but the place needs a full revamp. Our room was tatty disgusting stains on the bedding. Carpet was wet. Tv remote didn’t work hardly any plug sockets. Breakfast was sad no tea coffee just juice. Cereals and crossaints and toast. Staff were friendly check in was very easy. Wouldn’t return unless completely redone. Parking next door was £2.50 for 24 hours which is very reasonable.

Simply put, do not stay here at any price. It is filthy. No hot water. Bathroom sink had only a cold tap. Toothpaste all over sink, tap and glass shelf. Dirty, stained, filthy carpets. Bony mattresses. Bathroom dirty. No one to check out. Hotel not manned. So bad, I would not risk eating Breakfast. Seriously concerned about bed bugs but if I've brought them home from The Wool Merchant, I will 100% take legal action against the owners.

Affordably good quality accommodation with fabulous service. From the initial welcome to the time we departed and throughout the stay, we received the most professional, efficient, polite and friendly service from everyone of the hotel’s team we encountered, with special mention to the awesome Simon. The affordable rooms within this historic building are clean and functional; above all, they are very clean and comfortable with modern facilities like free-view television and reliable hotel Wi-Fi. The bed was comfy with crisp linen atop good duvet and pillows all of which aided a good nights sleep (some rooms might be noisy given the proximity to a reasonably busy road). The en-suite bathroom was also spotlessly clean with good water pressure to the shower and soft towels, complemented by some small bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The free breakfast was adequate and welcome, with a basic hot and cold self service buffet selection The hotel is located on the edge of the town centre of Halifax just a ten-minute walk from the railway station and even less of an amble from the bus station, and the same distance to the Peace Hall, also very close to the town's retail and leisure attractions. A good value for money friendly hotel in a good location, I can highly recommend. The hotel has new owners and management.

Unfortunately there were only 3 positives from our stay. The staff and the location were great and the bedding and towels were clean. The room we stayed in was tired and not inviting. The carpet was stained, the furniture was painted and peeling. The beds were mismatched with no mattress or pillow protectors and the curtains were stained and didn’t do their job. The only plug sockets that were working were behind the wardrobe. It could be a nice place with a little effort. The reception staff said it had been a great summer due to the piece hall concerts. The owners now need to put some updating in place in readiness for next season. There’s work being done round the train station and there’s some great bars and eateries so would love to go back. Unfortunately this hotel won’t be on my list which is a shame as it’s a lovely building from the outside.

Awful stay and the room was nothing like the photos on the listing. The bathroom was dirty and there were stains in the shower, there were lots of cobwebs round the walls/window and burn marks on the carpet. The bedding seemed to be the wrong size so it kept coming off the mattress. I don’t want to guess how old the pillows and duvet were. The room was so hot as the window could only be opened a fraction and there was no fan provided. The water pressure was terrible and not suitable for showering. On arrival we noticed the hot tap wasn’t working which we reported to an uninterested man at the front desk. Was told someone would come to fix it in 10 mins but it took an hour for someone to come. The guy didn’t even let us know if it was fixed or not, he just slammed the door on his way out the room. We ended up checking out much earlier than planned and you couldn’t pay me to stay here again.

Poor cleanliness in bathroom. No bin anywhere in the room. Shower chord broken, would have been difficult to operate. Bathroom door did not close properly. Cheap flimsy plastic poorly fitting toilet seat. Mattress too small for frame. Pillows paper thin. No reception on TV. no blind in bathroom. Breakfast facilities not open at 8.25am but wouldn’t have risked eating here. Seriously overcharged at £119 per night. Put poor communication with staff as there was only someone there at check-in. Someone was opening the shutters as we left but they didn’t ask about our stay at all, so decided to review instead. Poorly decorated, unfinished decor, cracked tiles in bathroom. Poorly draining sink.

Stayed here for 1 night whilst going to a concert at The Piece Hall, good location and cheap car park next door, it did the job as we literally just slept there, was concerned whilst checking as someone came back to reception asking for money back however room was very light as on a corner with 2 windows however bathrooom is very tired, no plug for sink although water only drained very very slowly, shower adequate after waiting a long time for hot water.Would not stay for any longer .
