Started off badly with a failure by the hotel to pick me up at the Madang airport and then no-one at reception to answer the phone when I tried to let them know I was waiting. Eventually got a lift to the hotel with a local who took pity on me. Gate security is good at the hotel, but it's not located in a good part of town, so just stay inside the grounds unless you have a car. Check-in process was easy and staff were all friendly. The rooms are on two levels, away from the reception hub and the general impression is that this is a conference hotel rather than for social or pleasure. Rooms were huge and clean. Air conditioning only worked if you were in the room with the key in and had switched on the electrical isolator (took me a while to realise the isolator was off), so there's a cool-down period every tiem you leave the room. Breakfast (included) was excellent. The pool was open, but unsuitable for swimming in (cloudy with algae). Generally, the decor is tired and fading. It needs reinvestment and more business to help pay the bills. Overall I felt safe, with good staff, quiet and clean, but tired and fading. There are better hotels in town for the money.
