I am from the US, but I found this place after discovering through Ancestry research that the Lumley family is in my family tree, and I found this castle in searching them and I wanted to see it, so we came.
Lumley Castle is a unique and amazing gem. There is so much history. The reception desk sells a book about the history, which is definitely worth purchasing. We attended Burns Nights in Baron's Hall, and the event was wonderful, with great food and fun dancing afterwards. The event spaces are just beautifully maintained. Our Castle Classic room was small but beautiful. The tub was perfect and we took luxurious soaks. The little vanity area was a very nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast each day and we stayed for dinner one night as well. Afternoon tea on Saturday was fairly priced and the scones and cakes were delicious. The library bar has such a perfect vibe. I loved reading by the fire with a drink. We could not have had a better stay.
Also, even though it is in the middle of nowhere, you can actually still get Uber Eats from the cities nearby. It felt a little odd to be texting my uber driver, I will meet you by the entrance to the castle, but alas, it worked out just fine.
