Perfect Location

The hotel is in a perfect location for a visit to Hay on Wye. It is a short walk to all the shops and amenities. It has on site parking behind the hotel. On this particular visit I had twisted my knee prior to arrival and I found the staircases up to our room a bit of a challenge.

There is hotel parking but it is a tight fit if you arrive late. Didn’t use the dining facilities as there are better options in the town

8/10 Very good

A very nice & convenient hotel for a weekend soaking up the atmosphere in Hay on Wye and browsing through the book shops. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were in Room 1 which is above the kitchen so noisy first thing in the morning. The signal for the TV was not reliable. However, these did not detract from our wonderful stay.

The Swan is a great place to stay, conveniently located near the center of town with easy access to a laundry, an ATM, a Post Office, restaurants and shopping. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served and the pub offers light options between meals. Top ratings.

Great location with quaint charm

We booked this at the last minute and arrived just 15 minutes before the kitchen was to close. They were very helpful and made sure we got seated and fed on a cold rainy night. This hotel is very close to the shops in town, perfect for a book holiday. The staff was very helpful in locating and directing me to a place that could help me ship my books back home.

This is a beautiful inn inside and out with great inside and outside dining facilities as well. If you only think to visit Hay-On-Wye dyring the book festival you are missing out on all the other wonderful attributes of the region. The walking is fabulous, ancient wooded footpath along the River, Mouse Castle Woods, Hay Castle, the outdoor market huge ancient Yew trees at Cusop's St. Mary's church. If, like me, your purpose is to explore on foot, tuck some slippers in your backpack so as not to dirty the carpets. Slippers are not provided :)

We'll be back!

Lovely comfortable room (even with the heat!) with an incredible view. Beer garden was a great space to have a drink in. All the staff we met were so helpful, a real credit to the Swan. Only negative was the price of food was a bit high but I appreciate costs of ingredients are probably huge nowadays with inflation...

The room was comfortable and warm. Enough space to relax. Good shower but the bath was a little uncomfortable - too big! Very helpful staff. The TV system is not linked to the internet so can't get netflix, firestick, on demand or catch up.

Beautiful room

Lovely clean comfortable room, beautifully decorated! Would point out that not all of the deluxe rooms have separate shower and bath as described on Hotels.com though. (shame as that was our reason for choosing a deluxe room!) Parking onsite and we were able to check in early. Comfortable bars and dining room. Unfortunately our dinner booking was not recorded and we were told the kitchen was closing when we went down, this made us feel uncomfortable and rushed with our meal. Food and service were excellent though. Very good breakfast - good choices on the menu although limited continental options - no croissants that day. We had a lovely stay and would have stayed longer if we could!

The Swan at Hay Hotel couldn't have been better. The accommodations, staff, and location were perfect for our stay in Hay-0n-Wye.

6/10 Good

Location was good but the hotel was only OK.

It was ok..good location for Hay but a little shabby around the edges and the food was dreadful. It seemed to cater for the local crowd which is good for them so the garden was full of lots of people enjoying the weather and the beer and bar food. I had to queue for some time at the bar to get a glass of wine and the bar was at the other end of the hotel. The TV in the room didn’t work and the hotel was quite noisy.
Judy, 1-night trip

Excellent location and lovely building in beautiful Hay. Love the original sash windows.

Sandra, 1-night trip

Really lovely hotel.

Lovely hotel. The staff were amazing and very friendly. Food was top tier. We arent usually the type to eat at the hotel we stay at, as we like to try more of the local places. But the food was so good we ended up having breakfast two of the days and dinner. The room was very nice and well equipped. The only issue we had was that when someone in the building used the hot water, we could hear banging from what sounded like the pipes which seemed to go on through the night. We did report this to reception and hopefully it'll get sorted for anyone else staying in that room. But overall a great experience.
